President Biden Delivering Remarks In Cleveland, Ohio

US

President Biden's remarks today are designed to boost the President's appeal in a state which has been trending Republican in the past two elections.

  • The President's remarks are scheduled to start at 15:15 ET 20:15 BST and can be followed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd2GN5-x7GE&featur...
  • According to the White House, the President will announce plans that will help “two million workers and retirees avoid benefit cuts and keep union pensions solvent until 2051.”
  • Biden will be joined by a number of high-profile Ohio Democrats including Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Reps Shantel Brown (D-OH) and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).
  • Rep Tim Ryan (D-OH), the Democrat candidate for the Ohio Senate race this year has declined to join the event, citing scheduling conflicts. The GOP has claimed that Ryan is avoiding exposure to Biden's poor approval rating.
  • The Hill: "Biden’s approval rating could stand to hurt down-ballot Democrats like Ryan and Whaley running in November’s midterm elections, particularly in a red-leaning state like Ohio. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates Ryan’s Senate race as “lean Republican” and Whaley’s gubernatorial challenge to incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine (R) as “likely Republican.”"
  • Ryan's GOP senate opponent JD Vance released a statement today saying: “Ryan has worked in lockstep with Biden to destroy our economy and Ohio’s middle class is suffering today because of it. But now, for the second time in two months, Ryan is refusing to be seen in public with his own party’s president.”
