  • Herzog expressed concern over the scope of protests: “Whoever thinks a civil war is something we will not reach does not know what he is talking about.”
  • Herzog: "Israeli democracy is the soul of our nation and we must guard it with all vigilance."
  • Yair Rosenberg at the Atlantic notes the significance of Herzog's proposal: "Its very existence, coming from a traditionally ceremonial office, shows how unprecedented this precipitous moment is in Israeli history."
  • Herzog: "This is not a political compromise on this and that clause. This is not a move for or against the initiators of the legislation or the members of the coalition."
  • Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs indicated on Twitter that there the proposal may do little to influence the government: "For the avoidance of doubt, the President's outline is a unilateral outline of the President and not an outline agreed upon in any way by any party in the coalition."
