President Viktor Orban Declares State of Emergency In Hungary

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has today declared a state of emergency in Hungary immediately announcing his new government, saying his cabinet needed room to maneuver to respond to challenges quickly.

  • Bloomberg: 'The state of emergency, a new tool Parliament approved earlier on Tuesday, will take effect at midnight and will give the government 'maneuvering room and the ability to react immediately' to the fallout from the war in neighboring Ukraine.'
  • In an interview earlier today Orban said: 'So a dangerous world surrounds us now. These dangers are occurring together. It is necessary to form a government capable of protecting Hungary from these dangers.'
  • Orban told reporters that the government will announce the first news measures tomorrow.
