The late, tech-driven buying that came to the fore on Friday resulted in a positive lead from Wall St., although familiar sources of tension surrounding Hong Kong resulted in some underperformance for the Hang Seng early this week, with the benchmark trading lower during Monday's morning session as a result.

  • Elsewhere, the ASX 200 struggled with local COVID-19 matters i.e. the deepening of Victoria's restrictions.
  • E-minis traded either side of unchanged.
  • Nikkei 225 +2.0%, Hang Seng -1.0%, CSI 300 +1.0%, ASX 200 -0.1%.
  • S&P 500 futures -2, DJIA futures -81, NASDAQ 100 futures +28.
