Rep Val Demings And Sen Marco Rubio Debate Tonight

US

A first and final debate between Rep Val Demings (D-FL) and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) will take place this evening at 19:00 ET 00:00 BST from Palm Beach State College. Livestream: https://eu.palmbeachpost.com/

  • Rubio is strongly favoured to retain his seat but Demings has made ground in recent polls, with a well funded campaign attacking Rubio's rigid position on abortion. Demings has consistently outpaced Rubio in campaign funding - USD$22.5 million to USD$9.8 in the most recent quarter.
  • Rubio cosponsored a bill with South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham that would ban abortion in every state at 15 weeks without exceptions for rape and incest. The bill came at a time when the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe V Wade was seen as improving the political environment for Democrats.
  • Politico: "Rubio will seek to link Demings to President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi... Rubio’s campaign has just launched yet another ad where they label Demings as “Pelosi’s puppet.”"
  • Christian Slater a Demings strategist said: “you should look for her to highlight what you’d expect: her law enforcement experience, Rubio’s failure to show up for work, and the various ways he fails Florida when he does.”
