Russia Demands Sanction Clarification In JCPOA Negotiations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

  • According to the Kremlin, the call 'emphasized that the resuscitation of the JCPOA should ensure that all its participants have equal rights regarding the unhindered development of cooperation in all areas'.
  • Comes as Lavrov made demands on Western negotiators that sanctions on Russia will not hinder cooperation between Russia and Iran sparking fears that Russia may attempt to use the final stages of the nuclear talks to push a Russian agenda.
  • Reuters reported: 'Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that Moscow wanted a written U.S. guarantee that Russia's trade, investment and military-technical cooperation with Iran would not be hindered by Western sanctions imposed since Russia invaded Ukraine.'
