Scholz, SPD Ministers Popularity Falls As Green Ministers Gain

GERMANY

Satisfaction ratings for Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other senior minsiters from his centre-left Social Democratic Party have fallen notably in recent weeks, while the popularity of senior ministers who come from the environmentalist Greens, such as Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock have risen.

  • Latest data from Forsa shows Scholz's approval has fallen to 42%, while his dissatisfaction rating rises to 52% (a net rating of -10)). Ratings for SPD Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (net -20) and Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht (-43) also sit at record lows.
  • Conversely, net ratings for Baerbock (+30) and Economy Minister/Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (+24) sit at new highs. The Greens have been more vocal in offering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia, boosting public support.
