Schumer-I Hope Senate Can Pass CR On Gov't Funding Tomorrow

Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) speaking on the Senate floor says he hopes to pass short-term continuing resolution to keep federal gov't funded “as soon as tomorrow if we can....without the unwelcome brouhaha”. Pressure on senior Senate figures to get respective caucuses on board as Christmas approaches.

  • Regarding efforts to fund gov't: "Congress now has a roadmap for funding the government before the conclusion of the 117th Congress, something the large majority of us want to see....We still have a long way to go but our framework is a big step in the right direction"
  • On risk of gov't shutdown: "The experiences of the last decade show that those who risked shutdowns in order to make political points always lose in the end."
  • Says 12-bill omnibus package is "a balanced approach because it will contain wins for both sides". Adds it contains provisions "that both sides want to see, like the Electoral Count Act and funding for our friends in Ukraine."
