Senate Will Move To Confirm SCOTUS Nominee ASAP

US

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has said that the Senate will move to confirm Biden's SCOTUS nominee 'as soon as possible.'

  • Schumer said members on both sides of the aisle will have the opportunity to evaluate, question, and get to know the nominee, but will also move quickly on the nomination.
  • Schumer's remarks suggest that Democrats believe their absent Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) will be fit to return to the Hill in time for a confirmation vote.
  • DC Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, South Carolina US District Court Judge J. Michelle Childs, and California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger remain the frontrunners for nomination.
  • There is not expected to be any opposition to Biden's nomination from within the Democratic caucus.
