Senior Official-Tehran Will Not Accept IAEA's 'Excessive Demands': Wires

Wires reporting comments attributed to an unnamed senior Iranian official, stating that the Raisi gov't will not accept the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s 'excessive demands'. Comments more negative than many put out by either US or Iran in recent days as a prospective EU-backed deal remains on the table.

  • In recent weeks there has been significant focus on the prospect of the Iran nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPoA) being revived. Yesterday,Reuters published an articleclaiming that 'The United States and Iran have found a way to address the U.N. nuclear watchdog's investigations of Tehran's atomic program that allows both to claim victory for now but delays a final resolution, according to three sources familiar with the matter.'
  • Tehran has demanded that for the deal to be revived, the IAEA's probes into uranium traces found at three undeclared sites must be ended.
