State Of Georgia Files Charges Against Former President Trump

US

Reuters reporting that the US State of Georgia has "filed legal action" against former President Donald Trump. According to Reuters, the Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has charged Trump with "violation of state RICO Act," "conspiracy to commit forgery," and "solicitation of violation of oath by public officer."

  • A Georgia grand jury will now deliberate on the case and issue a decision on indicting the former president. Should the jury approve prosecution it will be the fourth criminal indictment issued against Trump.
  • Analysts consider the Georgia case of particular significance as the president has no powers to pardon state crimes. Moreover, Georgia is one of the few states where the governor doesn't have the power to issue a pardon on state crimes.
  • Jonathan Lemire at Politico notes: “If Donald Trump is indicted in Fulton County, Georgia, it will not be the first time the former president will answer to criminal charges in a courtroom. But this time, the entire process will likely play out on live television”
