Stoltenberg Warns China On Supplying Russia w/Weaponry

NATO

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has been speaking at a meeting of the alliance's foreign ministers in Brussels. Says that, 'Any help to Russia from China will be a big mistake and will have profound consequences,' and that the partnership agreement between the two countries 'is of concern, and we have to be clear on that in our engagement with China'. Says that Russia is 'more and more dependent on China.'

  • Stoltenberg: 'NATO's 2% of GDP military spending has been seen by a ceiling by many...it should be declared a floor. [...] Germany and the Netherlands are now very committed to increase spending and reach 2% of GDP.'
  • On the Kremlin announcement that it would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, Stoltenberg says that it 'shows that Moscow signed empty promises' in its agreement with China. During President Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow last month the joint agreement stated that "all nuclear weapons states should refrain from deploying nuclear weapons abroad”.
  • Stoltenberg confirms that leaders of NATO's Indo-Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand) will be invited to the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
