Sullivan: 'We Will Do A JCPOA Deal If It Meets Objectives'

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has confirmed that the White House will continue to pursue a nuclear deal with Iran despite mounting criticism from Congress and allies in the Middle East.

  • Sullivan: 'If a deal meets the standards that the president has set to verifiably block the pathway of Iran to get to a nuclear weapon and put this program back in the box we will do that deal. But we will not do that deal until it meets those objectives.'
  • The talks with Iran are scheduled to resume this week amidst concern from Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE that removing the US terrorist designation from the Revolutionary Guard a will destabilise the region and allow Iran more flexibility to fund militant groups in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.
  • Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said that reviving JCPOA 'obviously in the best interests of regional and world peace.'
