Swiss Hydro Stocks Widen Surplus to 5-Year Average

Swiss hydropower reserves declined by 3.7 percentage points last week to 46.9% of capacity as of 12 February, widening the surplus over the five-year average to the highest in four weeks, BFE data showed.

  • The surplus to the five-year average widened to 6.8 percentage points, up from 6.6 points the week prior.
  • Stocks also widened the surplus over the long-term average – since 1997 to 10.6 points, up by 0.2 points week on week.
  • Hydropower output declined on the week. Output from hydro reservoirs fell by 223MW on the week to 1.12GW. Nuclear generation also declined by 158.3MW on the week to 2.83MW, Entso-E data showed.
