Syrian Media-Israeli Airstrikes On Airports

Syrian state media is reporting that there have been air strikes carried out on airports in the capital Damascus and the city of Aleppo. The Times of Israel writes, "Syrian media outlets are reporting an alleged Israeli airstrike near the Damascus International Airport. The pro-government Sham FM radio says Syrian air defenses are confronting the attack."

  • It should be noted that claims of Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory are not uncommon. In August, Syria claimedthat Israeli strikes targeted Aleppo airport, while in September the Syrian army reported that Israeli strikes on the port city of Tartous killed two soldiers.
  • Nevertheless, given the heightened tensions in the region claimed airstrikes such as these carry the risk of escalating the Israel-Hamas conflict to a broader conflagration.
