Timing Of Kwarteng Fiscal Plan Remains Uncertain

UK

This morning has seen some confusion on newswires regarding when UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng will publish his medium-term fiscal plan.

  • The FT yesterday reported HM Treasury sources stating that the fiscal plan will be published before the end of October.
  • In the last few minutes, Kwarteng has been indirectly quoted by GB News saying that the fiscal plan remains scheduled for Nov 23. GB News will broadcast the pre-recorded interview with Kwarteng shortly.
  • There appears to be an increasing disconnect between public messaging and policy making within the Truss cabinet. The most likely scenario is that the fiscal plan will be published before the end of the month but it doesn't appear that a plan has been coordinated and timing may be subject to change.
