Answering Treasury questions in the Commons, Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng states that "I'm very careful not to make unfunded spending commitments on the floor of the House."

Kwarteng promises he "will canvass opinion widely ahead of the publication of the plan"
  • Jennifer-Anne Scott at Sky News: "Lib Dem Jamie Stone asking Kwarteng if he will raise benefits in line with inflation, saying it is the "only fair way forward" and it would be "immoral to do otherwise". But the chancellor says he won't "prejudge any measures" in his upcoming economic plan."
