US

Former President Donald Trump will meet with United Auto Workers and deliver a speech this evening in Michigan, a day after President Biden became the first ever sitting president to walk a picket line.

  • The shifting attitudes to the strike of the two presidential frontrunner reflect strong voter support for the strike. A recent Morning Consult survey found that, "53% of U.S. adults support the auto strike, compared with 22% who oppose it."
  • The survey also found that, "while 36% of U.S. adults say the labor union is asking for too much, slightly more say it’s an appropriate amount or too little, " and "roughly 3 in 5 Americans say worker pay should increase whenever CEO compensation does."
  • Morning Consult: "Public awareness of the United Auto Workers’ activities is also growing: 60% of Americans say they’ve heard “a lot” or “some” about the strike, compared with 42% who were aware of the potential strike before it went into effect on Sept. 15."
