Free AccessTrump Endorsements In Spotlight At Midterm Primaries Tomorrow
The endorsement of former President Donald Trump will against be the focus of midterm primaries in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, and Montana tomorrow.
- Trump will face off against his former vice president and current adversary Mike Pence in the Arizona gubernatorial primary. Pence and term-limited Trump target, Governor Doug Ducey (R-AZ), are backing Karrin Taylor Robson against Trump endorsed TV anchor Kari Lake. This will be the next high-profile sparring session between Trump and Pence after they delivered conflicting accounts of the Trump White House at speeches in Washington last week.
- Three of the four remaining GOP House reps who voted to impeach Trump are up in action tomorrow. Rep Liz Cheyney, the most high-profile of the foursome is up on August 16.
- One of the four, Rep Peter Meijer (R-MI) is trailing in the polls against Trump-endorsed John Gibbs in Michigan. Whoever wins that race will be underdog in a redrawn district which looks like favouring Democrats.
- Two key states are holding Senate primaries tomorrow. Most eyes will be on the big money GOP primary in Arizona where Trump and GOP megadonor Peter Thiel are supporting Blake Masters to run against Democrat incumbent Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ).
- Disgraced former Governor Eric Greitens is also attempting a political comeback for the open Missouri Senate seat. State Attorney General Eric Schmitt is currently ahead in the polls after a concerted ‘anyone but Greitens’ campaign from moderate Republicans. The winner of the Missouri primary is likely to take the seat comfortably in November.
