Trump's Influence Over GOP Base Strengthens Lead Over Biden On Immigration

US

A new survey from YouGov/Yahoo News has illustrated the extent of former President Donald Trump’s influence over the Republican base on policy regarding immigration.

  • The survey finds that, “Nearly two-thirds of Republicans (64%) favor the recent bipartisan border-security deal struck by Senate negotiators, unless they’re told that former President Donald Trump opposes it, in which case GOP support plummets to 34%.”
  • With immigration strengthening as the primary political wedge issue of the presidential election, the survey suggests that a White House argument that Trump's decision to block the Senate border security bill has contibuted to the immigration crisis is unlikley to responate with Republican voters.
