Trumps Says He Will Not Stop Presidential Campaign If Sentenced

US

Former President Donald Trump has told the John Fredericks Show that he "will not stop presidential campaign if sentenced." A statement which will do little to change the 2024 presidential election calculus but underscores that the election will be dominated by the unprecedented complexity of Trump's legal issues.

  • Comes as Department of Justice Special Council Jack Smith yesterday brought three new felony charges against Trump, including claims that he asked an employee at his Mar-a-Lago resort to delete security camera footage requested by the DOJ.
  • Politico: “In a 60-page superseding indictmentunveiled Thursday, prosecutors also accused Trump of possessing a highly classified war plan that he shared with people lacking security clearances...”
  • The updated charges followed a meeting between Trump’s legal team and Smith during which Trump’s representatives reportedly tried to persuade Smith not to bring charges relating to Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
  • Next up: A federal grand jury considering the 2020 case is expected to return a new indictment on Trump in the coming days.
  • Axios has a published a guide of Trump's confirmed trial dates plotted against key 2024 campaign events.
