UK PM-I Will Raise LT Security Arrangements At Council Of Europe Summit

UKRAINE

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that he will raise the issue of long-term security arrangements for Ukraine at the Council of Europe summit taking place in Reykjavik, Iceland 16-17 May. Sunak: "I'll be talking to other countries, making sure that we continue to support Ukraine, give them the support that they need to defend themselves against Russian aggression, and also start thinking about the longer term security arrangements that we will want to put in place to support Ukraine..."

  • The comments come a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in a whistle-stop visit to the UK. Meeting with Sunak at the PM's country residence Chequers, Zelenskyy was promised additional shipments of long-range missiles and armed drones.
  • Speaking via videolink to the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Zelenskyy called for swift NATO entry for Ukraine, stating that “It is time to remove the biggest security uncertainty in Europe — that is, to approve a positive political decision on (Ukrainian) membership in NATO,”
