Ukraine Calls On Lawmakers To Return From Abroad, Security Council To Meet Monday

The Office of the President of Ukraine and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada have asked all lawmakers to return to Ukraine by Monday night, according to Ukrainian Pravda sources, to ensure maximum turnout over the coming days. Verkhovna Rada Chairman Stefanchuk is reportedly refusing to sign off on any official visits abroad by Ukrainian lawmakers.

  • Separately, Ukrinform reported that a closed-doors meeting of the National Security and Defense Council was postponed was postponed until Monday afternoon. The meeting will be chaired by Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov, with participants due to discuss the current security situation.
  • Ukrainian Pravda noted that around 20 chartered and private jets left Kyiv on Sunday alone, the most in six year, as businessmen and oligarchs appeared to be leaving the country, although some denied these allegations when asked for comments.
  • Meanwhile, the Ukrainian civil aviation regulator recommended that civil aircrafts steer clear from airspace over parts of the Azov and Black Seas from February 14 to 19 owing to Russian military exercises.
  • Nonetheless, President Zelensky's administration pushed back against closing Ukraine's airspace and allocated additional funds for relevant safety guarantees, even as several commercial airlines have cancelled flights into the country, raising the prospect of leaving it increasingly isolated.
