Ukrainian Military Says Donbas Separatists Violated Ceasefire

UKRAINE

Pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass violated the terms of ceasefire eight times today, according to the headquarters of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation (JFO). In their morning briefing, Ukraine's military said that the separatists fired mortars, grenade launchers and small arms towards several localities in the region, with no casualties recorded among Ukrainian soldiers.

  • JFO headquarters warn that latest transgressions by pro-Russian fighters are testament to preparations to further military escalation in the Donbas. Ukrainian military says that its troops observe the Minsk agreements and open fire only when the activities of pro-Russian separatists pose a threat to the life of Ukrainian soldiers and civillians.
  • Comments from the Ukrainian military represent a pushback against overnight reports circulated in Russian state media accusing Kyiv of launching an attack at several targets in Luhansk People's Republic in violation of Minsk agreements.
