US' Blinken In Turkey Calls For Speedy Nordic Accession To NATO

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken speaking in the Turkish capital Ankara on a number of topics. On China relations Blinken states 'China understands what's at risk if it were to provide material support to Russia...the US hopes and expects that China will avoid going down that road.'

  • On NATO expansion: US has strong support for the Nordic accession as quickly as possible... Finland and Sweden has already taken concrete steps under the memorandum that they signed with Turkey...Sweden and Finland's NATO expansion is not a bilateral issue.'
  • On arms supplies Blinken states that the 'Biden administration supports the sale of F-16s and its modernisation programme to Turkey.'
  • On the earthquakes that have hit the region Blinken states the US will be supporting Turkey 'for as long as it takes'. On Ukraine, says 'Turkey's clear voice in support of Ukraine's sovereignty has been criticial' and that 'Turkey's continued implementation of the Montreux Convention has prevented naval escalation.'
  • Blinken: 'US and Turkey do not agree on every issue but it is a partnership that has withstood against challenges.'
