US Has Exhausted Much Of Existing Ukraine Security Assistance Funds

US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller has told reporters that it is "imperative" that the United States' Congress legislates a new package of security assistance for Ukraine.

  • Miller: "The Continuing Resolution that passed Congress on Saturday did not include desperately needed support... While we have the ability to support Ukraine in the immediate term, we have already exhausted much of the existing security assistance funding. It is imperative that Congress takes action."
  • Miller: "We must continue putting Ukraine in the strongest possible position to defend itself. That means supporting them now while also transitioning to a more long term posture in which its people can rebuilt and live in a thriving democracy fully integrated with Europe."
  • Miller says that President Biden believes that new Ukraine will "come through," based upon strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in both chambers of Congress.
