US House Foreign Affairs Committee Meet On Iran Nuclear Threat

The House Committee meeting may provide some insight into the next steps in the US Iran strategy.

  • Many US lawmakers are now of the opinion that Iran has passed the threshold to reasonably contain the Iranian nuclear programme. If this is deemed to be the case then expect sanctions to remain in place.
  • The other possibility is that the US is relying on China to cajole Iran into a more favourable deal. China remains a key player in the negotiations and getting Iranian sanctions lifted will allow China to extend Belt and Road into Iran and exert more influence in the Middle East.
