US Imports of Mexican Crude Hit Record Low: EIA

US weekly imports of crude oil from Mexico fell to 184k b/d in the previous week, the lowest level on record, according to the EIA May 22.

  • The previous low was 208k b/d in the week to April 12 after Pemex redirected exports to its domestic refineries.
  • Mexico’s typically exports crudes such as its heavy Maya grade to the USGC and in turn imports gasoline from the US.
  • However, it is aiming to be more self-sufficient and use its own crude to meet more of its domestic oil products demand.
