US Middle East Strategy: No Vacuum For China/Russia To Fill

  • At the top, KJP: "This is the first time a US president has flown from Israel to Jeddah."
  • KJP: It is a monumental decision to open the Saudi airspace to all civilian carriers without discriminations to and from Israel. This is a result of President Biden's diplomacy."
  • JS: "The President tonight will have bilateral engagements with Saudi leadership. Tomorrow he will have bilateral engagements with Egypt, the UAE, and Iraq and then participate in the GCC summit and lay out, clearly and substantively, his vision for and his strategy for America's engagement in the Middle east. "
  • JS continues: "As [President Biden] has said, on this trip he is intent on ensuring that there isn't a vacuum in the middle east for China and Russia to fill. That American leadership and American engagement will be a feature in this strategically vital region."
