~USD$40 Billion Ukraine Aid Package Expected To Pass Senate Today

US

The sprawling USD$40 billion military and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine appears likely to pass the Senate this evening despite an ongoing block from Senator Rand Paul (R-KY).

  • Frank Thorpe of NBC writes: 'Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) says they're still working on a couple GOP holds on the House-passed Ukraine aid bill, particularly one from Sen Rand Paul and another from Sen Kennedy. "I think we should get there today but I don't know that for sure yet," he says.'
  • Igor Bobic of Huff Post: 'Rand Paul doesn’t sound like he’s budging on allowing a quick vote on $40B Ukraine aid today, calling it “unprecedented” and demanding more transparency.'
  • US Defence leadership including Chief of Staffs Chair Mark Milley and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin have both warned this week that funding for Ukraine available under presidential drawdown authority are at a critical level, and Congressional passage of the aid bill is crucial to the ongoing military support of Ukraine.
