USDCAD Opens Resistance With 1.37 Handle

CANADA
  • USDCAD at 1.3649 sits close to session highs (1.3657) as USD strength dominates, albeit with CAD outperforming other majors due to its linkages to the US.
  • The extension reinforces last week’s climb higher helped by the miss in Canadian CPI, which, if CFTC non-commercial positioning is indicative of broader positioning saw CAD net longs shrink further to just 1% of OI from the mid-Aug peak of 18%.
  • Next resistance is seen at 1.3702 (2.382 proj of Aug 25-Sep7-13 price swing) after the earlier high cleared 1.3651 (61.8% retrace of 2020-21 bear leg).
