USDCAD Testing Resistance Ahead Of Jobs Reports

  • USDCAD touches a session high of 1.2895 (+0.2%) with a small firming in DXY on the day plus an intra-session rolling over of S&P E-minis and WTI.
  • It nudges above initial resistance at 1.2892 (Aug 3 high) to tentatively open firm resistance at 1.2947 (Jul 25 high) with a break required to change a technically bearish outlook for the pair with support seen at 1.2767 (Aug 1 low).
  • Sizeable option expiry at today’s cut-off, the nearest significant amount being 1.1B at 1.2900 but also with a large 1.6B at 1.2800.
  • US and Canadian labour reports both hit at 0830ET, with consensus for the noisier CAD report seeing a small bounce back in employment but a slight rise in the u/e rate from the record low 4.9% (lowest since at least 1976) to 5.0%.
