European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen states that she is "Looking forward to turning a page and opening a new chapter with our partner and friend" as the announcement of a deal on the Northern Ireland protocol approaches. She will meet with PM Rishi Sunak in Windsor shortly, where she will also have an audience with King Charles III.

  • Some Conservative eurosceptics had warned against the King holding an audience with VdL, arguing that it would 'politicise' the monarchy. However, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the meeting is a courtesy offered to world leaders visiting the UK.
