Weds Saw Foreigners Buy Chinese Equities, Chinese Shed HK Exposure

A quick look at the latest round of Hong Kong-China Stock Connect flows:

  • Northbound flows flipped back into net positive territory on Wednesday, bringing an end to 3 straight days of net selling, as offshore investors purchased a net ~CNY8.1bn of Chinese mainland equities via the Stock Connect mechanisms. Offshore investors have sold a cumulative net ~CNY13.6bn of mainland equities via the Connect schemes over the last 4 trading sessions.
  • Southbound flows were stuck in net negative territory for an eighth straight session, with Wednesday's net sales via the Stock Connect mechanisms totalling ~HKD13.3bn. Chinese investors have sold a cumulative net ~HKD25.8bn of Hong Kong listed equities via the Connect schemes over the last 4 trading sessions, with Wednesday's net sales representing the second largest round of net sales on record (going back to late '16).
