Free Access'Weimar Triangle' Leaders Promise More Weapons To Kyiv
Speaking at a 'Weimar Triangle' meeting in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz states that "It's clear that we support Ukraine and that we're not at war with Russia...We will buy more weapons for Ukraine on the world market...With partners [we] will build up weapons production in Ukraine...Windfall profits from frozen Russian assues [will be used] to fund arms purchases for Ukraine...Putin must know our backing for Ukraine will not end."
- The 'Weimar Triangle' meeting brings together the leaders of Germany, France and Poland.
- French President Emmanuel Macron: "We will continue, as long as necessary, to support Ukraine and its people...Europe's security is at stake in Ukraine."
- Earlier, Polish PM Donald Tusk posed on social media "True solidarity with Ukraine? Less words, more ammunition." Alongside Scholz and Macron, though, Tusk says the three "Speak with one voice, especially on security." Tusk: 'We want to spend our money, to help, here and now.' Tusk praises the format and calls for another Weimar Triangle meeting in Poland in the summer.
- Comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin threatensthat "Kyiv's strikes on Russia will not go unpunished". Anti-Putin Russian groupsattacked border areas from Ukraine, and Ukrainian drone attacks continue to hit key Russian hydrocarbon infrastructure.
- Russia has maintained its bombardement of civilian targets in Ukraine, with at least 14 killed intwo missile strikeson houses in the city of Odesa earlier today. The two missiles struck the same location, with the second killing those who were seeking to rescue people after the first strike.
