Xi, Macron-Parties Should Assist UKR/RUS Establish Peace Thru Dialogue

Chinese state media reporting comments following a call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

  • Says that both Xi and Macron "exchanged views on Ukraine issue and agree that all parties should support Russia and Ukraine to restore peace through negotiations."
  • Elysee says Xi, Macron agreed on the importance of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
  • Xi: "China is willing to, together with France, continue to intensify exchanges at all levels and promote healthy development of China-France relations."
  • State media: XI "emphasizes that China has been promoting peace talks in its own way and is vigilant against formation of group confrontation. France's Macron says France shares a lot of consensus with China on Ukraine issue and will not participate in group confrontation."
  • Xi: "China hopes France will push EU to adhere to a correct understanding of China, properly manage and control differences, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields."
  • EU-China relations remain strained at present, with the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) facing a significant period on ice. China's continued relationship with Russia has resulted in many EU and member state leaders re-assessing relations with China, once focused purely on economics but now coming to be dominated by geopolitics.
