Australian Election: Race Tightens

AUSTRALIA

The latest opinion poll ahead of this Saturday's (May 21) Australian Federal election shows the incumbent coalition government gaining some ground.

  • A poll conducted by Resolve Strategic for newspapers in Sydney and Melbourne showed that primary vote support for the Labor Party had dropped to 31% from 34% previously. For the incumbent Liberal/National Party coalition support rose to 34% from 33% in the last survey.
  • On a two-party preferred basis, which takes into account how preferences are likely to be allocated, the Labor Party is still ahead 52% to 48% for the coalition. This has tightened though form 54% and 46% in the previous survey.
  • The poll was conducted from last Thursday to yesterday and surveyed 2049 voters.
