MNI BRIEF: Fed's Bullard Sees Rates Near Zero Through 2023

St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said Tuesday his "dot plot" forecast for interest rates does not foresee the first increase until 2023 despite his own estimates for robust economic growth.

"I'm continuing to see us at near zero through 2023," Bullard told reporters in a telephone briefing. "My main concern is that we not start to pull back before we start to see whether the data actually is consistent with the very strong forecasts for 2021 that we're now seeing."

MNI has reported the Fed wants to see the FOMC's own forecasts showing some inflation overshoot before raising rates. Bullard does not see the start of any QE taper discussion until at least the end of the year.
