European Commission VP Welcomes Steps to Reverse Courts Overhaul

  • European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova welcomed the new Polish government’s willingness to carry out changes in courts as the administration in Warsaw seeks access to almost €60 billion ($65.7 billion) in blocked aid, Bloomberg report.
  • Speaking in the Polish capital during her first visit after the cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk took office last week, Jourova said it was too early to say whether the planned judiciary changes go far enough to allow for the release of funds.
  • The EU’s executive will now have two months to assess the request and is only at the beginning of the process, she said.
