Government Remains Committed To Zero Deficit Target

  • Secretary of the National Treasury Rogerio Ceron said yesterday that there was no doubt that the floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul will impact economic activity in May and June, but that it was too early to assess if there would be an impact on the whole fiscal year. Other officials added that the government will do all it can to help the state’s accounts, while remaining committed to its zero deficit target for the year.
  • Today, finance minister Haddad will attend a G20 International Tax Symposium in Brasilia at 1600BST(1100ET), followed by a remote meeting with the National Monetary Council at 1900BST, which BCB President Campos Neto will also join.
  • On the macro front, FGV IPC-S CPI data will cross at 1200BST. April current account and FDI data are then due for release tomorrow.
