Haley Continues To Gather Momentum In New Hampshire

US

A new survey from CBS/YouGov has found that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) has continued to make gains in New Hampshire, the early primary state which will likely determine if Haley can mount a credible challenge to former President Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination.

  • CBS notes: “[in New Hampshire] Nikki Haley has consolidated much of the non-Trump vote and has emerged as the top alternative to him there... Haley gets the best marks on being seen as "likable" and "reasonable," and she runs nearly even with Trump on being "prepared" — notable, considering he held the presidency.”
  • CBS notes that Trump maintains his overwhelming frontrunner status in Iowa, where, “nearly half [of voters] say they are part of the MAGA movement.”
  • Axios reports: “Trump remains firmly in pole position, but an opening to slow his momentum — albeit an extremely narrow one — could present itself in the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 23.”
  • Semafor reports that Haley called former presidential candidate Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) on Friday to request his endorsement, but noted that “Trump has also asked for [Scott’s] endorsement and stayed friendly with the senator throughout the race. If Scott were to announce his support [for Trump], it would immediately vault him to the top tier of veepstakes speculation."
