Huw Pill Named as New BoE Chief Economist

  • The Bank of England announce Huw Pill is to take up the role as the Bank's new chief economist, taking a place on the nine-member MPC.
  • Huw Pill was the Chief European Economist at Goldman Sachs between 2011-2018, before taking up an academic role at Harvard Business School. Before Goldman Sachs, Pill had held positions at the Bank of England (1990-92) and ECB (1998-2001, 2004-11).
  • Former BoE staffer Tony Yates comments that Pill is "pretty hawkish on money and monetary policy I think".
  • The role had been vacant following the departure of Andy Haldane, who left the position in June.
