CHINA

MNI (London) - China's calendar new year holiday travel hit similar levels vs. that seen prior to the COVID pandemic and provides some hope for a recovery in Chinese travel demand during 2024.

  • This year’s travel levels are six times higher than comparable 2022 levels (when ZCS was still in force) and comfortably topped pre-holiday forecasts.
  • China has been encouraging travel in recent weeks, loosening visa restrictions to stimulate the travel sector.
  • It has also cut the visa requirements for inbound travellers from some European countries, such as France and Germany.
  • China’s travel volume typically peaks during the lunar new year holiday.
