Norway’s Hydro Stocks Fell to 5-Week Low

ELECTRICITY

Norwegian hydropower reserves declined by 2.5 percentage points last week to 83.6% of capacity, the lowest level in five weeks as of 31 October, NVE data showed.

  • Stocks narrowed the surplus to the five-year average to 2.9 percentage points, compared with a surplus of 6.26% points the week earlier.
  • Hydropower output in Norway increased on the week. Output from reservoirs rose by 3.64GW to 14.6GW. Onshore wind production fell by 1.01GW on the week to 1.32GW, Entso-E data showed.
  • Weather forecasts suggest some precipitation in the hydro-intensive region of Vestland, however, temperatures below 0°C could mean some precipitation could fall as snow, limiting inflows into reserves.
