Pro-EU Parties Could Unveil Coalition Agreement Next Week

POLAND
  • The coalition agreement of three pro-EU parties (Civic Coalition, Third Way, and the Left) is almost ready, according to the latest source report circulated by Onet. The piece suggests that the agreement will be more of a general "declaration" rather than a detailed contract and should be ready for announcement next week. It seems increasingly likely that the prestigious Sejm Speaker position will be rotated between Third Way co-leader Szymon Holownia and New Left co-leader Wlodzimierz Czarzasty. Holownia told TVN24 that the text of the coalition agreement has already been drafted and be made public in full after final amendments. He also signalled that the rotation system could be applied to Senate Spearship and some ministerial posts.
  • Outgoing Finance Minister Magdalena Rzeczkowska told PAP newswire that Polish public finances are "transparent, monitored by EU institutions and independent rating agencies". She added that public debt is among the lowest in the EU, budget deficit is under control, unemployment is low and an economic rebound is con the horizon.
