Russia Intel Chief-Another Meeting w/CIA Director Possible

Russia's state-run TASS reporting comments from Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin stating that a second meeting between he and US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns may be possible. The two previously met in November 2022 in the Turkish capital Ankara. Asked by TASS if another meeting would take place, Naryshkin stated that "It's possible."

  • Should another meeting take place it would mark the most high-level contact between the US and Russia in several months.
  • Naryshkin stated that the previous meeting was "meaningful" in that it enabled Moscow to set out its position with regards to the invasion of Ukraine. He also stated that he has talked the the heads of several European intelligence services as well as the CIA's Burns.
  • During the interview, Naryshkin talked up the amount of contact between Russia's intelligence service and those of China and Iran. With China, he stated there had been "unprecedented" cooperation.
