Yellen: Americans Are Starting To Feel Better About The Economy

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has stated at an event in Detroit, Michigan, "Americans are starting to feel better about the economy," adding that, "it's a tremendous mistake to focus on minor fluctuations," in CPI data.

  • Yellen: "Prices of gasoline, eggs, cars and trucks have declined and inflation overall is coming back down to normal levels... we know there's more work to do but good jobs are being created all over the United States."
  • Yellen said yesterday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: "This morning's CPI report showed that, in January, the headline consumer price index fell to 3.1 percent. That's six percentage points below its peak in June of 2022. At the same time, the recession that many forecasters predicted we would need, to see inflation come down, hasn't materialized."
