Opposition Democratic Alliance Calls For Snap Election

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa's main opposition Democratic Alliance will table a motion to trigger a snap election and calls for all parties to support it, DA leader John Steenhuisen said.

  • "South Africans should not have to choose between the Phala Phala corruption of Cyril Ramaphosa, the Digital Vibes corruption of Zweli Mkhize or the Mafia state of David Mabuza," the Democratic Alliance said in a statement.
  • The motion would require a simple majority of 50% plus one to pass, with the President Ramaphosa's African National Congress commanding a majority of 57.5%.
  • Minister in the Presidency Mondii Gungubele said that the President will make an announcement on the matter in due course, without providing further details.
