US' Blinken Makes Kyiv Visit After USD2bn Military Aid Announcement

UKRAINE

Wires reporting that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has made an unannounced visit to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Comes shortly after the US announced a new USD2bn military aid package set to be donated to Ukraine to further its efforts in repelling Russia's invasion and other NATO allies to bolster their defences.

  • The wider USD2bn package comes on top of another USD675mn package of heavy weaponry, ammunition and armored vehicles for Ukraine announced earlier from Ramstein Air Base in Germany by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III.
  • US President Joe Biden has a call at 1030ET/1530BST/1630CET with G7, EU and NATO leaders to discuss the war in Ukraine. Administration seeking to bolster any potential wavering nations ahead of winter and concerns about European energy supplies.
