US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, on a brisk tour of Europe to drum up financial support for Ukraine, has told the Brussels Economic Forum that more needs to be done to support the Ukrainian government.
- Yellen: 'I sincerely ask all our partners to join us in increasing their financial support to Ukraine.'
- Yellen continued: 'Support announced so far will not be sufficient to address Ukraine's needs, even in the short term.'
- EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: 'We discussed: Support to Ukraine in the short & long-term with the EU Commission’s Reconstruction package tomorrow. EU-US exemplary cooperation on sanctions against Russia. We will keep on coordinating closely. The good agreement on Global Minimum Tax.'
- Tomorrow Yellen will hold a press conference in Bonn tomorrow ahead of the G7 finance and central bank ministerial.
- According to the Treasury Department: Secretary Yellen will 'work with counterparts to advance a minimum global corporate tax as a part of a foreign policy for the middle class, address energy security and the threat of global food insecurity resulting from Russia’s unprovoked war, and strengthen the global health architecture.'
- A livestream of the presser will be available to follow at 09:00 ET 14:00 BST here: https://www.youtube.com/c/USTreasGov
